Summary: Kidnapped, Satoshi waits for Sho to save him.

First came the pain; blasts of icy hot steel seizing his injured body. His brain beat steadily against his skull; the emphatic pounding making him nauseous. Then he took in a ragged breath and the humid odor of a musty enclosed room choked him.

Satoshi forced his heavy, swollen eyelids open. He saw darkness before his vision adjusted. He lay on his side on cold cement in a deserted storage room, his legs shackled together and his wrists bound behind him. He pushed himself into a sitting position against the rough wall. Experimentally, he wriggled his tied hands. The rope cut into his flesh. The stench of fresh blood washed over him; he felt the liquid run down his hands and gather at the tips of his fingers. He took in another deep breath and burst into body wracking coughs when the stale air entered his lungs.

Muffled voices spoke outside the door. "Did you hear that? Is he awake?"

"Better than dead, like the other one."

Masaki. Dead. Satoshi opened his mouth to scream, but his throat closed. Horrified tears blurred the dark room; his tears running down his face to mix with the blood caked on his skin and clothes. He tried to breathe through his own sobs and the musty air surrounding him.

“Aniki,” Satoshi finally choked out between uneven gasps. His older brother dead. Impossible. But Satoshi had seen the light go out behind Masaki's eyes; had seen the lifeless smile on Masaki's face. A new wave of pain engulfed him, pain that was more than skin deep, scorching and numbing him from the inside out. A shriek finally tore from his lips and scratched his throat while he relived the moment of his brother's death.

Sho's soothing voice broke through his intense horror. "Calm down and think clearly."

Satoshi drew up his shackled legs and his head sank into his knees, muffling his wrenching sobs. He remembered Masaki had laughed playfully at Sho's serious tone, but Sho had caught Masaki's hand and brought it to his lips.

"It's only hypothetical," Sho had said. "But if you are ever in such a dangerous situation, I want you to be prepared." Satoshi had watched as Sho's intense gaze burned into Masaki's, all the love and adoration they felt for each other blatantly displayed in front of the younger Satoshi. Then Sho had remembered him and turned to ruffle Satoshi's hair in an affectionate gesture. "And know that wherever you are, I will come save you. Both of you."

Masaki and Sho had not known that Satoshi looked at his feet not because he felt embarrassed, but because his own eyes burned with love for Sho as Sho's had for Masaki. He admired Sho, the leader of a special police unit, more than was appropriate and his feelings had shamed him because he loved Masaki as much.

Tears continued to seep into his pants as Satoshi took in deep breaths. Masaki was gone and now the only perfect person for Sho, as Satoshi had always known, was no longer here. Who could ever fill that void inside the both of them? If only it had been him who had died.

He heard exclamations, shouts, and gun shots outside the room. Seconds later, running feet approached the door. The blast of fresh air hit him as someone burst into the musty room, but Satoshi did not move or look up to see the face of his savior.

“Clear!” a man shouted.

Someone rushed over and fell to his knees beside Satoshi. The person felt for the pulse at Satoshi's neck and relieved to find it, raised Satoshi up by the shoulders. Satoshi registered that it was Sho peering anxiously at him.

“Sho,” Satoshi said in a bare monotone. "You came."

“Are you hurt anywhere else?” Sho asked, his expression mixed with concern and fear when he saw the bruises on Satoshi's face.

Satoshi felt fresh tears burn his eyes. "I-I'm s-sorry," he whispered. Masaki was dead.

As if he understood, Sho held him by the nape of his neck and met his gaze. "At least you're alive," he murmured. "Thank god, you're alive."

Satoshi nodded and watched Sho turn away as two squad members ran forward to unbound him. He knew he saw the damp glow of tears on Sho's own face. Satoshi saw a burden, heavier than his own, set on Sho's shoulders; Sho's burden knowing that he had not been able to save the most important person to him, Masaki. Grief for himself and Sho overwhelmed Satoshi as Sho walked through the door, his back still turned.

A/N: Just a random plot I thought up as I was blow drying my hair this morning. Since I don’t have time to write, decided to make it into a drabble but kanu beta it and after a short intense discussion, we changed here and there and made it into a one shot. The original point, plot and idea are still there. Kanu basically rewrote the story for me though. Thanks. Made me teary just thinking about such tragic love. Q.Q
